Welcome!

The City of Edmonton, Transportation Department has indicated that reconstruction of 112 Avenue is anticipated in 2012.

There has been a commitment from the City of Edmonton Administration to review the concept of road diets with relevant communities approximately 18 months before scheduled reconstruction of 112 Avenue occurs.

A dedicated group of residents is bringing forth information on the proposed 112 Avenue Road Diet to inform, educate and gather support for the plan as laid out by the 2005 Highlands/Bellevue Neighbourhood Design Charrette.

The 2005 Highlands/Bellevue Neighbourhood Design Charrette was facilitated by Dan Burden with the participation of stakeholders in the Highlands and Bellevue communities. The Charrette took into account the needs of the communities, including the residents and the businesses along 112 Avenue, as well as the needs of the commuter traffic that uses the 112 Avenue road way to access their own communities.

This site provides an overview of the Neighbourhood Design Charette, as facilitated by Dan Burden in 2005.

Current Status

Feb 28 - The City's Transportation Services Department has advised, that as part of the City's approved 2012-2014 Capital Budget, funding has been allocated to allow for the reconstruction of 112 Avenue from 50 Street to 68 Street. Transportation Services has been directed by the TIC to consider reducing the number of traffic lanes along 112 Avenue through Highlands as part of the 112 Avenue reconstruction project. Therefore, Transportation Services is currently planning their next steps that include further technical assessments to determine the feasibility of reducing the number of traffic lanes along 112 Avenue along with the development of a public involvement plan to facilitate input from area residents.

The results of this work will be reported back to the TIC for a final decision on the reduction of traffic lanes along 112 Avenue. I will follow up to obtain another update from Transporation Services regarding the technical assessments and public involvement opportunities and will update you again soon!

Oct 30 - The section of 112 Avenue between 50 Street and 68 Street has been identified for reconstruction, but the project currently remains unfunded. However, Transportation Services will present a report to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (TIC) on November 1st recommending that if budget is approved to reconstruct 112 Avenue, a study to reduce the number of traffic lanes on 112 Avenue through Highlands will be undertaken with the results of the study to be brought to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee before the end of 2012. Apart from a possible reduction in lanes along 112 Avenue, the reconstruction project will consider sidewalk widening along with minor aesthetic features and/or landscaping within the road right-of-way.
